Spring and Summer concerts coming soon.

Hello
music lovers can it be the first week of March already? Time is certainly moving by quickly it won't be long until the spring and summer concerts and shows begin. An outdoor concert that will be here soon is Bonnaroo in Manchester Tennesee. The web site lists it as 101 days to go until it starts.
While there will be several artist performing the most interesting one is The Police who have reunited for 2007 in celebration of them forming 30 yrs ago. I can't see how this really a celebration considering they somewhat broke up in 1984 but I guess that it is one way to say that they have put aside their differences for now. The friction between Sting and Stewart Copeland is what made for some great music when they were together. I hope they sound better than they did at the Grammy Awards it showed that they hadn't played together in quite a few years. Alot of different groups will be playing Bonnaroo here is a partial list of some of them.
Tool ,• Widespread Panic • The White Stripes • Ben Harper & the Innocent Criminals • Wilco • The Flaming Lips • MANU CHAO Radio Bemba Sound System • The String Cheese Incident • Franz Ferdinand • Bob Weir & Ratdog • Damien Rice • Ween • Gov't Mule • Ziggy Marley • The Decemberists • The Roots • Kings of Leon • Michael Franti and Spearhead • Wolfmother • Regina Spektor • The Black Keys • Galactic • DJ Shadow • Gillian Welch • Spoon • Keller Williams (WMD'S) • Sasha & John Digweed • STS9 • Old Crow Medicine Show • The Hold Steady • Lily Allen • North Mississippi Allstars • Fountains Of Wayne • Hot Tuna • Feist • Hot Chip • John Butler Trio • Ralph Stanley & the Clinch Mountain Boys • Aesop Rock • The Richard Thompson Band • Dierks Bentley • James Blood Ulmer • Xavier Rudd • Gogol Bordello • Junior Brown • Tortoise • T-Bone Burnett • Mavis Staples • Clutch • Cold War Kids • Dr. Dog • Paolo Nutini.

Wilco will be wrapping up a tour of Australia and Europe prior to playing at Bonnaroo. They will also be releasing a new album on May 15, 2007. It is called "Sky, Blue,Sky" and will include songs such as "Either Way,You Are My Face,Impossible Germany, and Sky Blue Sky." I haven't heard anything in advance from this album but will report on what I do when it is available. It will be interesting to see which direction the band will take musically. Jeff Tweed and Jim O'Rourke worked hard on the last two albums to be more experimental in order to leave the "alternative country" label that Uncle Tupelo and Wilco had built up previously. Wilco has recently been compared to Radiohead in their muscial direction. No matter which direction they take muscially I 'm certain it will be a success.

Another former Uncle Tupelo member has reformed his band. Jay Farrar who after going solo has decided that the band Son Volt was a better . A new album called " The Search" will debut on March 6, 2007 a partial listing of tracks are " Slow Hearse , The Picture , Action , Underground Dream , Circadian Rhythm" it will be interesting to hear how Farrar with some members of the new and old Son Volt. They begin a tour March 26 , 2007 and will play the Pageant in St. Louis on April 21, 2007.

Avril Lavinge has released her single "Girlfriend" and it is alot different than her previous albums "Lets Go" and "Under my Skin". The lyrics and music are alot lighter and comparable to what Jewel tried a few years ago. She left the angsty guitar girl image behind for a poppier sound on her album "03/04" the fans didn't react well to this and when sales dipped Jewel said it was a comment on the music industry and how it is more concerned about style than substance. If the reviews on iTunes are any indication of what Avril's fans think she apparently didn't pay attention to Jewel's mistake.

British pop singer Kellis ( the song 'Milkshake") the wife of rapper Nas was arrested in Miami on Friday for interferring with a police undercover operation. Apparently, Kelis charged two undercover female officers who were posing as prostitutes shouting racial slurs toward them. Her friends restrained her and she seemed to calm down for a moment but then she started again and the officers arrested her for interference. She posted a $1,500 bond and was released a few hours later.
Another pop singer in trouble is Bobby Brown who hasn't been paying child support for the past few months. When he atttended his daughters cheerleading competition in Canton, Ma the norfolk county police arrested him and took him to jail for three days. Hot 99.5 a Washington DC radio station paid over $19,000 that Brown owed in child support because he was to be an employee of the station for a week. Bobby Brown and his wife Whitney Houston divorced last year after 14 years of marriage.

The last week in February.

Wow
can it be the last week in February seems that it was just New Years Day. The year is quickly passing us by. In the music world this week Brittney Spears not only shaved her head and the salon owner sold her hair online for "charity" but she went into rehab then left and eventually went back again. The odd thing is her ex K-Fed said that he thought she should have gone awhile ago and he 's going to take care for the two kids they have??? I cannot see how K-Fed is going to take care of two kids when he has a couple more of them by a different woman who he doesn't even acknowledge. To quote a line from a John Lennon tune " Strange days indeed, most peculiar momma."

In regards to the former Beatles record label and Apple Corp and Apple Inc reached an agreement this past week. Seems that in 1991 the two parties agreed that Apple Inc wouldn't use the "Apple" logo and trademark. Apple Corp was unhappy about Apple Inc. using the logo on the iTunes site and prevented them from allowing Beatles songs to be downloaded.
Under the new agreement Apple Inc. will license certain trademarks and their continued use back to Apple Corp. in return they will allow Beatles songs to be downloaded on iTunes. The two companies will have to bear their own legal costs and the terms of the agreement weren't made public. So, it won't be long until we can download our favorite Beatles songs from iTunes or iWIndows.

Kurt Cobain's 40 th birthday would have been this week he was born on Feb 20,1967 in Aberdeen Washington USA
he killed himself on April 5, 1994. In the 14 yrs since his death a Forbes Oct 2006 article listed him as the top-dollar dead celebrity earning an estimated $50 million dollars passing Elvis who was the top-dollar dead earning celebrity and only earned $42 million in 2006.
Another musician Tupac Shakur was killed in 1996 and continues to release new music he grossed 25 million in 2006, Rick James who died in 2004 will have a new single out this year. Seems like dying is a boom to a musicians bottom line.

In happier news the band Modest Mouse (the song "Float On" 2004) will be coming out with a new CD titled
"We were dead before the ship sank" on March 20 and guitarist Johnny Marr will be joining them. He was in The Smiths during the 80's with Morrisey then he played with THE THE and eventually formed the band Electronic with Bernard Sumner (New Order) . Electronic called it quits and New Order reformed so he's been playing with various artist such as Oasis, Beck, Beth Orton, and his own group Johnny Marr and the Healers., I believe that this will make Modest Mouse sound even better than before.
Here are a list of birthdays in music for the week of Feb 19-25, 2007

The Week that was

Well let's see the week that was in music.
Audioslave called it quits which I think was a great idea it should have happened sooner. I couldn't see why the guys from Rage Against the Machine wanted to hang out with Chris Cornell from Soundgarden. I didn't care for their sound or the songs that they sang. I never could see how RATSM were raging against anything because they had a contract with TimeWarner? The often sighted creative differences was the reason why they called it quits

The Grammy's were this week and the Dixie Chicks despite being riled by their fans and the conservative right for saying they were ashamed of being from Texas because it was the same state that George W. Bush was from at a concert a few years ago.
They won the Album of the Year, Record of the Year, and Song of the year "Taking the Long Road Home" and "Not ready to make nice" were the winning album and song all of which were produced by Rick Rubin (Beastie Boys Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Johnny Cash) I'm glad to see that some musicians can stand up for what they believe in and be rewarded for it. Here is a list of some of the catagories awarded.

Best Album of the Year Taking the Long Road Dixie Chicks
Best Song of the Year " Not Ready to make nice" Dixie Chicks
Best New Artist Carrie Underwood

Best Country
Female " Jesus take the wheel" Carrie Underwood
Male " The reason why" Vince Gill

International Male Solo Artist Justin Timberlake
International Female Solo Artist Nelly Furtado

International Group The Killers

International Album Killers “Sam’s Town”

International Breakthrough Act Orson

Outstanding Contribution to Music Oasis

I have to admit that I'm more than partial to Muse and Oasis they are both bands that I have enjoyed listening too and am glad to see that they being recongized. I don't understand the buzz about the Artic Monkeys They don't seem as talented as the other musicans and rely more on their antics on stage and off. I guess each generation has their version of the Sex Pistols.

Brittney Spears made a scene on Friday evening in LA she had flown in from rehab in the carribean earlier in the day . Then she showed up at a hair salon wanting her head shaved when the stylist wouldn't do it she did it herself then she went to a tattoo parlor and had a couple of "tats" done. A pair of lips on her wrist and a black pink and white cross on her hip ? Why she did all of this is stil unclear. Maybe she wants to shed her teen queen image and become some sort of new era Joan Jett whatever the reason we will have to see.

GET OUT OF MY HEAD !

What is this about?

Hi,
I suppose your wondering what this Blog is about and who is wrting it ? Well my name is Glenn Taylor and i live in Swansea IL which isn't the center of the music universe but I suspect someday it will be. Anyway, I am somewhat of a music savant in that I know alot about music groups of today and yesterday. This blog is called "GET OUT OF MY HEAD!" because sometimes we get a song caught in our head and aren't certain as to why or how it got there. I will do a weekly (hopefully) report on the music scene national and if there are any local bands out there send me an email and I may do a write up on you too. Email me at GMACD1@YAHOO.COM for any and all correspondence.
